This is my favorite time of year because there are so many holidays coming up. I love celebrating all of the following in order:
Halloween, NaNoWriMo, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, with Valentine’s Day around the corner.

That’s right. This is when all us novelists go crazy. We work tirelessly to write an entire novel (50,000 words) during November, in the hopes of providing the world with more of the valuable resource known as stories.

So at midnight, the split second after Halloween ends, people around the world will put aside their bunny ears, cotton tails, vampire fangs, wigs, and swords to begin writing the first words of their novels. (Last year at the countdown to midnight, I sat between a woman dressed as a pirate, complete with beard, and a pair of gals resembling mad hatters.)
The NaNoWriMo website is a place where these would-be novelists can log the number of words they’ve written, keep track of their stats, chat with their buddies, and get together with other people from their area who are also participating. You don’t have to write in the forums or get together with complete strangers. Safety first, of course.
But…
If you’ve always wanted to write a novel but have never managed to get around to it, this could be for you.
If you’ve written several novels and want to try something different and fun for a change, this could also be for you. All ages, all places, and all stages of life are joining in.
If you’re not remotely interested in this crazy thing, then this post is merely a reminder that I will be busy working my keyboard throughout November, typing madly. I will still attempt to post, but if you don’t hear from me, trust that I am writing something amazing. Or at least, very quickly.
